1. Psuedo-homosexuality is in many ways worse than the sort of accepting standoffishness of normal straight guys. You're caught off guard, you don't know how to act, and you usually end up making a fool of yourself. Come on Bear, Matty, be disgusted by me so I know how to behave toward you!

2. Doctor Who makes me feel old and grumpy. I've loved the Doc since I was a little kid, as I know Peter and Tara did. It means that it made my week to see K-9 again, that I was blown away when the Master came back, and that the mere mention of UNIT gave me shivers. Somebody asked me what UNIT was, another said that they had to wikipedia the Master, and I stopped reading most fan fora when someone thought that K-9 and Sarah Jane Smith were both inventions of the new show rather than part of the long history of Who. And don't even get me started on Torchwood. The only reason you like it is that you're obsessed with gay men so you look to Captain Jack to get you high tonight.

3. Rent is fundamentally dishonest and pretentious, and I'm growing to hate it. The fact that they have conventions and pretentions apart from the norm doesn't mean they're actually tolerant free-thinkers - they can't even tolerate the people around them. They think you have to conform to a certain standard of non-conformity, so their entire credo falls apart. Plus Mimi's sadism is unforgivable.

4. The media has entirely perverted 21st century relationships, to the point that normal healthy ones seem neigh unto impossible, and people who have traditional desires and values are seen as backward and anal-retentive. I'm not calling for a return to an earlier time when women were bought and sold, men beat their wives, and children were thought necessary to the completion of womanly virtue, but at the same time, nothing is committed, nothing is perminent, and the love which bears it out even to the edge of doom seems to have been drained entirely from the landscape of young adult life. Hollywood would never make Casablanca if it came across their desks today - the guy has to give up the girl. Rick has actual love so strong that he will sacrifice his own happiness for Girl and Country. Now the biggest sacrifice you need to make is holding your arms up and tolerating Peter Gabriel, and the object of your affection will be overcome with emotion and want to sleep with you, and fundamentally that's the same as wooing and romance. We don't see love as hard, we don't see love as being painful or requiring sacrifice, and we don't see it as involving more than just transient surface emotions. Minor affection is enough, to the point that the phrase "I love you" is something you only say to a significant other and family, not (also) to your close friends.
